Promoting Environmental Justice through Reducing Greenhouse Gases
~ Stephanie Gee, P.E. & Paul Cobian, P.E.
Achieving clean air is a massive undertaking in quantifying greenhouse gases in the 2nd largest city in the US. The role of CEQA and mitigating negative impacts is more critical than ever as we aim to bring about a green and just economy to help key operations function with better technology necessary to reduce the carbon in our urban environment.

Getting the Stink Out: Modeling Sewer Flows and Air Treatment to Preserve our Underground Infrastructure
Christine Heinrich-Josties, PE & Hamed Haddad-Zadegan, PE
Maintaining our award-winning program to reduce sewer spills and odors requires significant collaboration among environmental engineers to study vast underground pipe networks and flows of over 300 millions gallons per day of wastewater and the foul air that no longer detracts from the quality of life of 4 million Angelenos and all the tourists who visit here.

Every Bite We Take: Turning our Organic and Food Waste into a Valuable Resource
~ Dr. Rowena Romano, P.E. & Miguel Zermeno, P.E.
Angelenos generate a substantial amount of organic and food waste that can easily overtake the neighborhoods of our dense, urban communities. Enjoy this inside look at some of the innovations engineers have developed to turn pilot projects into full scale operations to pull energy and produce products that support clean air operations, healthy soils and biodiversity.

Hyperion 2035: Redesigning Water to Ensure our Survival
~ Dr. Nasir Emami, P.E. & Kimia Nader-Tehrani, EIT
Our Mayor has called on us to recycle ALL of our wastewater which will require a massive construction of advanced treatment technology without interrupting the ongoing 24/7 operations of the largest water reclamation plant west of the Mississippi. Learn how we are turning this vision into reality through pilot projects to ensure that we support the health of Santa Monica Bay while reducing the amount of water LA imports by 2035.

"Ask an Engineer"
~ Multiple LASAN engineers of all experience levels
There is no real format for this session. We'll have multiple breakout rooms, each with a topic and multiple engineers. You choose the room that interests you and ask all the questions you have!
As the lead agency for the City’s environmental programs and initiatives, LA Sanitation & Environment protects public health and the environment through the administration and management of three program areas: Clean Water (Wastewater), Solid Resources (Solid Waste Management) and Watershed Protection (Stormwater). These infrastructure programs collect, treat, recycle, and dispose of the solid and liquid waste generated by the nation’s second largest city of more than four million residents. Through these essential public service programs, LASAN delivers a triple bottom line of economic, environmental, and social benefits that sustain the quality of life in Los Angeles.
